Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a yoga class and yoga therapy?

A yoga class is a general group practice — everyone follows the teacher through the same sequence. Yoga therapy is a personalised one-on-one program designed for your specific health goal — anxiety, back pain, sleep, perimenopause or chronic stress. It begins with a clinical-style assessment, develops a treatment plan, and includes a home practice tailored to you. Yoga therapy works alongside medical care, not as a replacement for it. Both Anupam and Sunil are Yoga Australia registered yoga therapists.

What makes Prasanna Chitta Yoga different from other Perth yoga studios?

We are a yoga therapy practice first, not a general fitness studio. Both Anupam and Sunil are Yoga Australia registered yoga therapists and Yoga Australia Private Health Approved Providers. Sunil additionally serves on the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT) Accreditation Program Review Committee — the body that accredits yoga therapy training programs worldwide. Our group classes are deliberately capped at 8 students so we can give individual attention and offer safe adjustments. Our work is grounded in current international clinical standards while remaining true to the authentic yoga tradition.

What style of yoga do you teach?

Our name reflects our purpose. Prasanna means happiness. Chitta, according to Patanjali, is the fourfold function of consciousness — mind, intellect, memory and ego. Our yoga is designed to keep the Chitta happy.

We are trained in and inspired by the Sri Sri School of Yoga — a beautiful integration of four classical paths:

  • Hatha Yoga — the path of effort, through posture and breath
  • Raja Yoga — the path of effortless meditation
  • Gyana Yoga — the path of knowledge
  • Bhakti Yoga — the path of love and devotion

In practice this means invigorating yoga postures, breathing techniques (pranayama), guided meditation, yogic philosophy, and lifestyle guidance grounded in yoga and Ayurveda. The result is a wholesome experience — not just exercise. When applied therapeutically in our 1:1 yoga therapy sessions, these same elements are tailored to your specific health goal.

Can I claim my yoga therapy through private health insurance?

Both Anupam and Sunil are Yoga Australia Private Health Approved Providers — the formal credential that allows participating Australian health funds to offer rebates on yoga therapy. The reality on coverage: Australian funds are progressively adding yoga to their products through 2026 — some are activating coverage from July, some later, and some may not at all. Please check directly with your fund and policy to confirm whether yoga therapy is currently covered. We issue compliant tax invoices that meet Yoga Australia's requirements; you submit through your fund's app or portal.

Do you accept NDIS clients?

We accept plan-managed and self-managed NDIS participants under capacity-building supports. Please note: Prasanna Chitta Yoga is not a registered NDIS provider, so clients with NDIA-managed plans cannot be invoiced directly through us. Yoga therapy is commonly used for NDIS goals around anxiety, chronic pain, mobility, neurodivergence and rehabilitation. We provide progress notes to plan managers on request.

Where are you located, and which Perth suburbs do you serve?

We are based in Darch, Western Australia 6065 — in Perth's northern corridor. We regularly serve clients from Darch, Wanneroo, Madeley, Joondalup, Kingsway, Landsdale, Tapping, Banksia Grove and the surrounding northern suburbs. For clients elsewhere in Perth or interstate, online sessions are available Australia-wide.

Do you offer online yoga therapy?

Yes. Online 1:1 yoga therapy sessions run via Zoom and work well for many conditions — particularly anxiety, sleep and stress. Online is a great fit for clients outside Perth, shift workers, parents of young children, or anyone needing flexible hours. The assessment process, treatment plan and home practice are the same as our in-studio sessions.

Are you accepting new clients for yoga therapy?

Yes. We typically have 2–3 new client spots opening each month for 1:1 yoga therapy. The best first step is a free 15-minute discovery call so we can check fit before booking a full assessment. You can book the discovery call via our contact page.

I am new to yoga — where do I start?

For complete beginners, our recommendation is to attend our weekend Yoga workshop. It includes six sessions spread over three weekends. Each session is two hours, and we comprehensively cover all aspects of yoga — posture, breath, meditation, philosophy and home practice. It will give you the confidence to start your own practice and help you decide whether group classes or 1:1 sessions are the right next step. If you are managing a specific health concern such as anxiety, back pain, sleep or perimenopause, you may prefer to start with a free 15-minute discovery call to discuss whether yoga therapy is a better entry point.

How much does yoga therapy and yoga classes cost?

Yes — both as one-off personalised yoga classes and as structured 1:1 yoga therapy programs. Personalised classes are ideal if you have specific learning goals (improving a posture, deepening meditation, building a home practice). Yoga Therapy (1:1)

  • Initial Consultation (60 min): $120 AUD
  • Follow-up Session (60 min): $100 AUD
  • 6-Session Therapy Package: $540 AUD (save $60)

Group Yoga Classes (capped at 8 students)

  • 10-class pass: $240 AUD
  • Drop-in single class: From $30 AUD

Specialty Programs

  • Prenatal Yoga: From $30 AUD per class
  • Corporate Yoga and Wellbeing: Quote on request
  • NDIS sessions: Per plan rates apply

If your private health fund has activated yoga therapy coverage, you may be eligible to claim a rebate. NDIS plan-managed and self-managed participants can use plan funding where their plan permits.

Do you offer 1:1 yoga sessions?

Yes — both as one-off personalised yoga classes and as structured 1:1 yoga therapy programs. Personalised classes are ideal if you have specific learning goals (improving a posture, deepening meditation, building a home practice). Yoga therapy programs are recommended if you are working on a specific health concern over 6–8 weeks. Both are available in-studio at Darch and online.

How should I practice at home?

We recommend practising yoga on a non-slippery yoga mat and using a cushion or bolster for comfortable seated work. This is a small investment that also gives you a sense of commitment to your practice. After your first 1:1 session or yoga therapy assessment, we provide a written home practice plan tailored to you — including the postures, breath techniques and meditation practices that match your current needs. Consistency matters more than length: even 15–20 minutes daily builds momentum over time.
